Happy Birthday--2nd place will do...I guess.

This Saturday was my birthday. I won't say how old , but let's just say I feel like I'm really getting old! I celebrated by participating in my first-ever cyclocross race. It was in Heber at the county fairgrounds. It had rained all day long the previous day so the course was a soggy, muddy mess! That's cross, or at least that's what I've been told. People were having mechanicals left and right. Chains were flying, derrailleurs were popping, I even lost tension in my chain and I thought I was going to pop it off any minute. However, the chain held and I got beat out at the finish line for 1st place. 2nd place in my first race is not too bad I guess! Actually, I'm pretty stoked! Next week the race is at the RMR! My gut tells me that a lot of the fast riders didn't race this weekend because of the crappy weather, so this race might be a whole different story! We'll see. I capped the night off with a wonderful dinner with Sara, Max and my parents at our local favorite eatery, Wingers. We love the sticky fingers and Max loves the crayons. Everyone was happy!

I hope the fat kid riding the IF learned his lesson. . . Don't ride an IF in the mud, it's just not right, AND if your stupid enough to do it, get some tires that allow a little bit of mud clearance! 38's. . . C'mon!!

Mike - that's awesome! Already dominating in your first cross race. And Rob tells me you were even on a single speed, barely losing FIRST place because you were spinning out your gear! That's awesome. Don't psyche yourself out about any competition that didn't show up because of the mud this weekend. If they were too scared to race in some mud, then they've got nothing on you anyway. But, yeah, that does look like some pretty fierce mud!

Scott,

That kid you are calling fat, for one, actually isn't fat. And two, that "fat kid" led for the whole first lap before his bike filled with mud. I'm sure he would have done a lot better with a more mud-friendly set up. But that's just my opinion.

Lo-thanks for the nice words. Cross is a lot of fun! I'm excited to see how well I can do this season!
