Happy Halloween!!

The pumpkinstein:

Love Halloween. Love how at this age, these costumes are used all. the. time.

Trick or treating was probably the most fun with these guys this year. Over the weekend, they had their first taste with the trunk-or-treat at church. Alexis loved it so much, on Sundays she'll ask in a spooky voice while wiggling her fingers "ohhhhh, candy at church." To then only comment that the candy is closed until next year. (The easiest word I could find to help her realize trick-or-treating only comes once a year).

On Halloween, we went out as a fam (left candy in a big bowl on our porch - and actually still had some in there by the time we came back!), and hit house to house. Alexis was done about 45 minutes into it, so she and I headed home to pass out candy which became her favorite part of the night. She loved running to the door and would scream "trick or treat" or "halloween" to the kids as they came to the door. Gladly, they were patient enough to let her pass it into each bag. Mike and Max stayed out and went until his bucket was full. Max loved it and was so excited to check out his stash.

And after about a week of the candy stash we gave the kids a choice to keep it or donate it. A local church is sending candy over as part of a care package for troops overseas, and once Max heard they didn't have access to things like candy, he had no problem setting aside his few favorites and then bagging up the rest. Alexis joined right in, although, I think if she fully realized the candy would be gone, she would have rethought her choice. She's a bit of a chocolate lover. I'm super relieved to NOT have it around the house - I don't think I'm the only parent that a: gets tired of hearing, "hey, mom, can we have a piece of halloween candy?" and b: gets tired of the burdening temptation of known large amounts of candy so easily accessible. I had to curb that sweet tooth eons ago, but staring at it anyway wasn't very fun.
