Thanksgiving

Our Thanksgiving holiday was simple and quiet. It was the first year we've spent with just the immediate family, and since it was just us, I wasn't so sure about cooking an entire Thanksgiving dinner solo. But, then I thought about the leftovers (my favorite part), and went with it. I actually broke it up over a couple days, and it ended up being a lot of fun. I'm surprised at how much Alexis enjoys hanging around the kitchen while I'm cooking. While she isn't at the point of being a hands-on helper, she really loves to watch, talk my ear off, and taste test just about everything.

The day of, while I was pulling everything together, the kids both sat and colored some awesome turkeys. I was so proud of their coloring skills (and that they sat and spent the time on them), that I actually had turkey pictures hung surrounded by all of our Christmas decorations. I just couldn't take them down!

Kept up a tradition of writing (or drawing the picture of) things we're thankful for throughout the month of November. While I'd love to say we wrote one every day, it was more of a do a few one night, and miss out the next night kind of a tradition. But, we filled up a large vase with things we're thankful for, and it's another piece of work that I still haven't been able to let go. It's sitting on my counter, orange, yellow and brown, and a sweet memory of all the things we thought of as a family this year. Sometimes those memories are the best part of it all.

Around the Thanksgiving time, our city does a holiday event. I actually think they schedule it early to give people a chance to head outside before it gets too cold, but this year, it was actually warmer after the event! It had just snowed that afternoon, so it was fun to be out in wintery conditions. My favorite part is checking out the real reindeer.
