Where does the time go? As I'm a couple months behind on this thing, I can't believe how much the kids have grown since then! Seriously crazy.
Max was pumped the night before his birthday, and was completely expecting the traditional balloons and car wash on his doorway the next morning. He stayed up super late sitting in his room with anticipation for when we'd come in to sing happy birthday and dump balloons all over him.

The first gift he opened was one he'd been really hoping for. This kid loves to draw and has had his eye on this book after receiving one about animals for Christmas. Along with, we gave him an entire ream of paper. Since his birthday, he's managed to blow through 200 pieces (I only know the number, as he's writing and illustrating his own book - and has page numbered each page). The stories that he writes really are funny, with plenty of 7 year old humor. Aside from telling us he wants to be an engineer when he grows up (since building legos transfers to building things, he thinks he'd be a good fit), he also wants to be just like Dr. Seuss - both a writer and illustrator. Who knows where he'll go, but it sure is fun seeing his interest in the creative process. And, since Mike and I have accepted that our high energy boy will never just go to sleep when we walk out of the room for bedtime, it's nice to come back in and read glimpses of the chapter he had to write before going to sleep, or the lego creation he had to build before tucking himself into bed. I love it.
We took him out for a birthday dinner to his favorite spot - a local bbq place that is in a super old building, in a revitalized downtown in the suburb where we live.
From dinner we headed to a church bike parade and ice cream social at the park. Max was excited to show off his creation - the shark bike (and won the prize for the best looking animal on a bike - of course, he was the only one in that category too!)
Sis was more concerned that all decorations were either pink or purple.
And, he had lots of fun getting spoiled from everyone who sent him birthday presents. Super fun to see his anticipation whenever a package came in the mail.
We are so grateful for this guy!
