Thanksgiving

Yummy food, good family time, games, and talking with the grandparents long distance.  Cooking the turkey dinner for the family does take some time, but it sure is nice having leftovers for a few days!

All month we write down what we're grateful for at dinner and put it in a jar.  On Thanksgiving we pull them all out and read them (we stuck a bunch on a poster to see easier).  We started doing this a few years ago, and while a big jar of papers isn't really the prettiest way to display written gratitude notes (just look at pinterest for the beautiful trees!), it really is super functional for us.  The jar sits at our table all month with papers and crayons ready to go.  It's so easy to just jot it down over dinner, and doesn't become one more "thing" I have to try to remember otherwise.

And, it's been a great way for the kids to think about things around them.  It's fun to see what they think of after they've written about family members.  Alexis wrote things like roads, kermit, the play set and trains.  Max wrote things like being able to play outside, winter and summer, and his bed.
