It's a little crazy sometimes to think that as a mom, I'm experiencing our sixth elementary school with the kiddos! Different moves and different chapters have enabled us to experience things in such a beautifully unique way.
One thing I've learned in our different moves, is that there really are great schools everywhere we've lived. Really. And it's fun to step in and learn and embrace some of the traditions and programs that create the school community.
Alexis LOVES how this school focuses on STEM. Math is her favorite subject, and while she's been exposed to the STEM program in other schools, she loved how she was able to create a project as a group. Her group was challenged to "invent and create some type of toy." They worked on the project all year - created, designed, and built the whole thing as a group at school. It was fun to hear progress updates, and just this last week, to go in and hear them present their completed project.
The different groups had such fun ideas! Of course I'm biased, but I just loved their idea! They made a Nature Marble Maze! Out of straws and cardboard!! I tested it out and it totally works! So fun. She loved this project so much, her and her brother are already brainstorming some of their summer projects together!
The second fun activity this week was in Kindergarten. Tayler's teacher has a tradition of a "Q & U wedding party." Two of the students are assigned to be "Q" and "U" and get "married" as a fun way to teach how those two letters stick together. More than anything, Tayler was excited for the excuse to wear her fancy dress to school and that there was a party to attend. She absolutely wanted to wear her regular school shoes and keep riding her bike, and I couldn't stop smiling with how cute it was.
