Humble Pie--My favorite!

After winning the most prestigious and illustrious Men's C State Championship recently, I decided that it was time to line up with the big boys. After all, I've won some races, I'm ready, right? Wrong!!!! This week I raced with the singlespeed class at the CX race at Wheeler. Let me tell you, racing in this class is a whole new ball game. In C class I've never really been passed. I was passed plenty of times today! I held my own for the first lap. I kept up with Steve Wasmund and company, which for me was pretty encouraging. Steve recently placed 14th at the World CX Single speed championships. I thought, "heck, if I can keep up with these guys, I might not do so bad!". Boy was I wrong. As the race went on, I realized there was no way I could hold pace with the leaders. I don't know who I was kidding, but these guys are FAST!!!!!On the run ups and barriers I felt I held my own, I even passed some riders on the run ups. But on the flats I couldn't spin my 39x18 any faster. A lot of guys were running some pretty tall gears. 42x17? I don't know, but they passed me like I was standing still on the flats! I don't know where I finished, the results still haven't been posted. I'm guessing around 10th. Pretty sad, I know! Oh well. I like the competition and now I have something to really shoot for. Everyone from Timp stayed and watched the race. The cheering section was huge! Every time I went by it was crazy loud. I think people were confused. They were wondering why everyone was cheering so loud for the guy in last place. It was appreciated though! Overall, it was a fun race. I hope to improve next week as I am planning to race singlespeed again. Later!

Here's Max enjoying the race. He loves Wheeler Farm. It is his favorite place!!

Here's the only barrier section of the race. Four barriers with a run up at the end! I saw guy break his ankle here during the C race. It had to have hurt!

Here's me and my fat butt trying to catch some guy! I was seeing stars by now!

I like run ups!

You do a lot better on the barriers then you did trying to hurdle in high school.

10th place aint nothin to be down about. You were mixing it up with some of the toughest riders that utah has to offer. Nice work. I love them one gear bikes.

Um, yeah, the "special" ones get the most cheers, we thought about having a hugger for you at the finish line but no one wanted to do it. Just kidding! Good work buddy, I am going to remain in the kiddie pool of C class, safe with my water wings of anonymity.
