Steelhead Fishing

I had the opportunity to spend a week with my Dad last week way up in the Idaho wilderness. Yep, it was our annual steelhead fishing adventure on the Clearwater River. Unlike years past, this year's trip turned out to be quite different in many ways. First of all, as we started our 12 hour trek, we got caught in a bad snow storm just past Tremonton. Black ice was everywhere and we really had to go slow. A car in front of us actually lost traction and did four complete 360s. Scary stuff! On top of that, a little later down the road we ran into true carnage. At least eight semi trucks had slid out and jack knifed, causing a huge pile up on I-84. We had to wait nearly 2 hours for the mess to be cleared. Crazy stuff.

The rest of the week was spent fishing all day long along the banks of the Clearwater. The weather continued to be cold throughout the week. It either snowed or rained on us the whole time. Strangely enough, the water was lower this year, contributing to a small amount of steelhead in the river. The more water flow the easier for the fish to make it up the river to spawn. We still did manage to catch about 10 fish though. Not our best trip, but not our worse. Each fish averaged 12-15 lbs. Nothing like those b-run Clearwater steelhead! Most of all, it was nice to get away from work and spend some good quality time with the pops!

Here are a few pics of the trip!

"four complete 360s" - isn't that a 1440? Them is some big fishies. Nice photos. Did your jerseys ever find their way to you? Are you coming down for a little cholla challenge?
