Park City--Deer Valley Loop

My buddy Joe and I woke up early this morning and hit the trails of Park City and Deer Valley. It was so nice to get out of the heat and take in some nice, fresh mountain air! We got to the trail head at Guardsman at about 6:00am and not a soul was there. We ended up dropping down into Shadow Lake, down Keystone to Midmountain, over to Tour des Suds, then eventually over to the Team Big Bear loop which was part of the Perfect 10 course we did a couple of weeks ago. Instead of descending down the fire road like in the race, Joe took me down a free rider trail called Toad's Wild Ride. Wild it was! It was full of all sorts of obstacles and drops that really aren't for me. Joe, on his rigid Jones, cleaned every obstacle. Check out some of his pics at joemtbiker.blogspot.com. He's crazy with the technical skills! I rode the single speed today since my FS is still being warranty'd. I have to admit, I never thought I'd ride the single so much, but the more I ride it the more I fall in love with it. There's a lot to be said about the simplicity of just one gear and no shocks! Call me crazy. The ride was just over 20 miles with heaps of climbing. Oh, and did I mention, we didn't see one other person while we were out there. I'm going to have to venture out to these lesser-known Park City trails more often!

Nice work climbing back up to Guardsman on the single. I was working hard in my small ring!

Joe, I still can't believe you rode Toad's on your rigid. Crazy kid! Mark, I was actually dreading the climb back up to Guardsman but when I got there it paled in comparison to the steep switchbacks of The Steps. It actually wasn't that bad. Plus, your ride was at least 10 miles longer, so I understand the small ring.
