Brainerd

We'd been itching to drive North and enjoy a "Minnesota vacation." The timing worked out well enough for us to spend a few days up there with Mike's parents. Hanging out at a cabin on the lake, doing a little fishing, swimming and checking out the local small town scenery was a welcome change to the hustle and bustle of the cities. One of those spots where we didn't know what exactly to expect, but once we were there, just wanted to stay longer!

We were a bit early for enjoying the warm sunshine on the beach with the kids play in the sand and lake, but they still had a blast. A big indoor pool complete with a water slide was a favorite. I think Max went down the water slide over 100 times. And he managed to get everyone (expect little Alexis) to go down with him (thanks for being a good sport, grandma - he still talks about it!).
I loved the trails that surrounded where we were and enjoyed a jog each morning we were there. Fresh air, peaceful and quiet! Max loved the trails for it gave complete access to sticks, bugs and dirt (soon to be flower beds). Alexis loved the trails well, because Max loved the trails.

The boys managed to do a half day fishing trip in the POURING rain. A one point the tour guide said, "I am getting so soaked." Max turned to him and said, "yeah, so am I!" They all laughed when they realized the adults were all in complete rain gear but Max was just in his jeans, a coat and a trash bag (our way to improvise!). Even with the rain, they managed to catch a few fish (no walleye this time), and Max loved every moment (a relief since we didn't know how he'd be with the rain!). Most favorite part for him? Playing with the minos in the tank as they waited for a bite.
