Measuring Cup

Seriously? Who's the writer that's been slacking on posts lately? I know. And I completely blame it on a nasty cold I picked up. Felt like the flu at first, then felt like a cold. I thought I was just getting it worse because of being prego, but sure enough I've run into a handful of other people who've all had the same symptoms. It knocked me out, and being a bit paranoid of it turning into another episode flu/pneumonia/what-was-I-thinking-to-ever-get-so-sick and I-never-want-to-get-that-sick-again, I took it easy and eliminated everything non-essential. Hubby didn't want a repeat either, and was sure to enforce anything that looked like "extra" work. But, we're back in motion again. Whew!

Onto the measuring cup. Or, the first choice out of the treasure box for successful #2 in the potty by Ms. Alexis. Sure, that's way too much information, and she'll probably hate reading about this when she's 16, but in this current chapter, it's a big highlight.

The whole potty thing clicked for her about a week after school started for Max. We went with the same method as Max - a treat for a pee, a surprise* from the treasure box for a poo, and a sticker on a chart for every success. Lots of practice time in the beginning, lots of time spent at home those first 3-4 days (well, all time spent at home), and just like that, we have a cute underwear-wearing 2 year old.

While Max seemed amused to figure out every color of soap in every store we went to post-diapers, Alexis seems most interested in the toilets (size, color, shape of the actual seat) and the hand drying methods. Comments regularly on how loud they are, and is genuinely excited to wave her hand for the automatic towel.

*surprise - small "extra" things she's received as a gift that I stashed away for a later date. Once those are gone, pipe cleaners and foam stickers to add to an art project. Once those are gone, an assortment of little things she's forgotten about that look completely new inside a shoe box. And, once those are gone, the newness has worn off and the treasure box retires.
