Small and Simple

“Simplicity is often overlooked. It can be too small to catch our attention. To be seen, simplicity must be created.” – Sara Walkenhorst
I took this thought with me as I stepped onto the yoga mat. I wanted to ‘create simplicity’ within my practice. Instead of powering through movements to deepen or strengthen, I chose to simply be aware and deliberately look within. To the outside eye, the movements through the poses were noticeably smaller. Much of my work was drawn inward. To focus on who I already am. To give myself the freedom to let go of the expectation of needing to be more in order to be enough. This process required attention to discover and use the space from within each existing pose. I had to listen and focus my breath. What did I learn?
Consistently focusing on the small and simple is hard to do.
This reflection opened my mind off the mat. Are there times we push past the small and simple actions of daily life because it feels like something bigger will work better? How often do we miss the simplicity around us in pursuit of something grander?
It seems life does not need to be filled with new, or bigger, or better to be fulfilling. Instead, it is the small and simple actions repeated over time that truly deepen our understanding and broaden our horizons.
INVITATION:
What is a small thing I can do that will create simplicity today?
